He has won the Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild award for Best Actor. Depp rose to prominence on the 1980s television series 21 Jump Street, becoming a teen idol. Turning to film, he played the title character of Edward Scissorhands (1990), and later found box office success in films such as Sleepy Hollow (1999), Pirates of the Caribbean film series (2003–present), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), and Rango (2011). He has collaborated with director and friend Tim Burton in seven films, including Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) and Alice in Wonderland (2010).

Depp is known as a serious, somewhat dark, weird, consistently selecting roles that surprised critics and audiences. He continued to gain critical acclaim and increasing popularity by appearing in many features before re-joining with Burton in the lead role of Ed Wood (1994). In 1997 he played an undercover FBI agent in the fact-based film Donnie Brasco (1997), with Al Pacino; in 1998 he appeared in the fear and loathing in Las Vegas (1998), directed by Terry Gilliam, and then, in 1999, he appeared in sci-fi/horror film The Astronaut's Wife (1999). The same year he rejoined with Burton in Sleepy Hollow (1999), brilliantly describes Ichabod Crane.


Born John Christopher Depp in Owensboro, Kentucky, on June 9, 1963, Johnny Depp was raised in Florida. He dropped out of school at age 15 with hopes of becoming a rock musician. Depp get into acting after a visit to Los Angeles, California, with his ex-wife, Lori Anne Allison (Lori A. Depp), who introduced him to actor Nicolas Cage. He made his film debut in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). In 1987 the star's early career when he replaced Jeff Yagher in the role of undercover cop Tommy Hanson in the popular TV series "21 Jump Street" (1987).




Depp has played many characters in his career, including another real person, Insp. Fred Abberline in From Hell (2001). He stole the show from a great screen with Antonio Banderas in the movie cover of Robert Rodriguez's "mariachi" trilogy, Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003). In the same year he starred in the marvelous family blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), plays a character that only the likes of Depp could play with the charming, cunning and mischievous Captain Jack Sparrow. Then Depp work together again with Burton in the screen adaptation of Roald Dahl novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005).


Music

As a guitar player, Depp has played slide guitar on the Oasis song "Fade In-Out" (from Be Here Now, 1997), as well as on "Fade Away (Warchild Version)" (b-side of the "Don't Go Away" single). He also played acoustic guitar in the movie Chocolat and on the soundtrack to Once Upon a Time in Mexico. He is a friend of The Pogues' Shane MacGowan, and performed on MacGowan's first solo album. He was also a member of P, a group featuring Butthole Surfers singer Gibby Haynes, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones. He has appeared in Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' music video "Into the Great Wide Open". He made a cameo as the Mad Hatter in the music video for Avril Lavigne's Alice (Avril Lavigne song) in 2010.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is a 2011 adventure fantasy film and the fourth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. It was directed by Rob Marshall, and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. In the film, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is joined by Angelica (Penélope Cruz) in his search for the Fountain of Youth, confronting the infamous pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane). The script, written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, draws inspiration from the novel On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers.
